Virginia Medicare Plans: Virginia Medicare Advantage Plans

Rather than to stay with the Original Medicare, you may consider an option to enroll in one of Virginia’s Medicare Advantage Plans. These plans are offered by private insurance companies. By law, they cover all services as provided by the Original Medicare program. Plans typically include a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan and multiple extra services such as wellness programs, dental, hearing and vision services, and often gym membership.

There are several types of Medicare Advantage plans available. These include HMO, PPO, PFFS, MSA and SNP. All plan options are accessible in Virginia. Below is the list of Virginia Medicare Advantage providers represented by Liberty Medicare:

Virginia Medicare Plans: Virginia Medicare Prescription Drug Plans

If you are covered by the Original Medicare and didn’t enroll in the Medicare Advantage Plan, you are advised to register in one of the stand-alone Virginia Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs). The enrollment is optional but highly recommended because there is a consequence for delayed PDP enrollment. PDP’s are run by private enterprises and cover both generic and brand name drugs. Most of these companies are well-renowned and conduct business across most of the US states.

State Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs (SPAPs)

Virginia has VA HIV SPAP – Virginia AIDS Drug Assistance Program that pays Medicare Part D costs for people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. To be eligible, you must be a Virginia resident participating in the Virginia AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), have income under 400% FPL and be a Part D beneficiary.

Virginia Medicare Plans: Virginia Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap Plans) provide protection against Original Medicare out-of-pocket costs. Included among the expenses are deductibles, copayments, coinsurances and excess charges. Without such plans, your Medicare health costs may be staggering. Plans are sold by private insurance companies licensed in Virginia.

Virginia  Dental Insurance Plans

Dental Insurance Plans in Virginia are available for all ages – for people under 65 as well as for people over 65. Three types of Dental Insurance are available:

  • Indemnity Dental Insurance. With this dental insurance, you may choose your own dentist, as there are no network constraints.
  • PPO Dental Insurance. This dental plan operates through a network of preferred doctors whose services charges are discounted. Fees are higher for patients who are visiting doctors outside of the net.
  • Dental Discount Plans. These plans are not dental insurance. They are just discount plans; doctors participating in this program have to offer discount prices for the majority of dental work they perform.

All of the above dental insurance plans are available in Virginia. See Liberty Medicare list of Dental & Vision Insurance Providers.
