Ohio Medicare Plans: Ohio Medicare Advantage Plans

Rather than to stay with the Original Medicare, you may consider an option to enroll in one of Ohio’s Medicare Advantage Plans. These plans are offered by private insurance companies. By law, they cover all services as offered by the Original Medicare program. Plans normally include a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan and multiple extra services such as wellness programs, dental, hearing and vision services, and often gym membership.

There are several types of Medicare Advantage plans available. These include HMO, PPO, PFFS, MSA and SNP. All plan options are accessible in Ohio. Below is the list of Ohio Medicare Advantage providers represented by Liberty Medicare:

Ohio Medicare Plans: Ohio Medicare Prescription Drug Plans

If you are covered by the Original Medicare and didn’t enroll in the Medicare Advantage Plan, you are advised to join in one of the stand-alone Ohio Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs). The enrollment is optional but highly recommended because there is a consequence of delayed PDP enrollment. PDP’s are run by private enterprises and cover both generic and brand name drugs. Most of these companies are well-renowned and conduct business across most of the US states.

Below is the list of Medicare Prescription Drug providers in Ohio represented by Liberty Medicare:

State Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs (SPAPs)

Ohio does not have any SPAP but has Ohio Best Rx – a prescription drug discount card program.  It provides prescription drug discounts for all Ohio residents. State residents over the age of 60 are automatically enrolled regardless of income. To be eligible for the program state residents under the age of 60 should meet two requirements:

  • not have any insurance coverage
  • must meet the income requirement:  to make equal to or less than 300% of federal poverty guidelines

Ohio Medicare Plans: Ohio Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap Plans) provide protection against Original Medicare out-of-pocket costs. Included among the costs are deductibles, copayments, coinsurances and excess charges. Without such plans, your Medicare health costs may be staggering. Plans are sold by private insurance companies licensed in Ohio.

Ohio Short Term Health Insurance

Ohio Short Term Health Insurance provides health insurance for individuals and families in times of transition. Short Term Health Insurance covers the need for temporary medical coverage. It is an alternative to Qualified Health Plans whenever those plans are either unavailable (i.e., fall outside of Annual Enrollment Period) or unaffordable.

See Liberty Medicare list of Short Term Health Care Providers.

Ohio Dental Insurance Plans

Dental Insurance Plans in Ohio are available for all ages – for people under 65 as well as for people over 65. Three types of Dental Insurance are available:

  • Indemnity Dental Insurance. With this dental insurance, you may choose your own dentist, as there are no network constraints.
  • PPO Dental Insurance. This dental plan operates through a network of preferred doctors whose services charges are discounted. Fees are higher for patients who are visiting doctors outside of the system.
  • Dental Discount Plans. These plans are not dental insurance. They are just discount plans; doctors participating in this program have to offer discount prices for the majority of dental work they perform.

All of the above dental insurance plans are available in Ohio.  See Liberty Medicare list of Dental & Vision Insurance Providers.
