Medicare Supplement Plans in Central New Jersey, also known as Medigap Plans, fill the gaps in Part A and Part B of Original Medicare, such as deductibles, copayments/coinsurances, and excess charges. Without them, your Medicare costs could be very high. New Jersey Medicare Supplement plans are sold by private insurance companies, and like plans in most other US States, they are standardized.

Medicare Supplement Plans in Central New Jersey: Vendors and Premiums
Standardized Medigap Plans
There are Ten Medicare Supplement Standardized Plans, designated by the letters “A” through “N”. Each of them has its own set of benefits, and these benefits are identical for all vendors. In other words, the benefits of Medicare Supplement Plan F from one vendor are the same as benefits from any other vendors. The difference is just a premium, and it may be significantly different from vendor to vendor. That is why knowledge of Medigap vendors and their premiums in your particular area may be quite significant.

Medicare Supplement Plans in New Jersey: Specific Medigap Regulations
Medicare Supplement premiums in New Jersey are established using the following factors:
- Age
- Zip code (and sometimes a County within the zip code)
- Gender
- Whether or not you are a tobacco user.
Rates usually are lower in rural areas and higher in urban areas. Male rates are typically higher than female rates by 10-15%.
The New Jersey law allows Medicare providers to charge more than what Medicare allows – the difference is known as Extra Charges. The Medigap Plans that include Extra Charges (Medicare Supplement Plan F and Medicare Supplement Plan G) are more expensive than plans that do not include them (Medicare Supplement Plan C and Medicare Supplement Plan D).
For people having Medicare due to disability under the age of 65, New Jersey has added requirements that allow people under 65 to get Medicare Supplement. The requirements are:
- Medigap Plan C is available for people age 50-64 enrolling at the Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment
- Medigap Plan C is available for people age 50-64 entitled to Guaranteed Issue Rights
Most New Jersey Medicare Supplement providers offer Medicare Supplement Plan C for people age 40-64. The cost is typically equal to that for individuals who are 65 years old, but for some companies, it is significantly higher.
New Jersey does not have any additional special Guaranteed Issue windows, such as 30-day birthday period. A household discount is allowed in New Jersey, and several Medicare Supplement vendors include it. The typical discount is 5 to 7 percent.
